EYE HEALTH
During the course of an examination we may ask you questions about your general health including medical history and current medications as often this is relevant to your eye health.
We do a general check of the major eye structures and functions, then target on to more higher risk or troublesome areas using various examination techniques; This may include photos, OCT imaging and visual fields. If there is a high clinical need, we might need to do more testing on another day to accommodate for this.
Additional to identifying and monitoring glaucoma which all NZ registered optometrists are expected to do, we have the provision where appropriate to prescribe medical therapy to treat and control 'mild' glaucoma. Referral on to see a specialist is also always an option, and will be suggested especially in cases where we feel you might need more than we can offer.
Kids struggling with reading and writing, or exhibiting behavioural symptoms should have an eye examination to fully explore how the visual system could be contributing to these issues. If you are unsure about the symptoms to be looking out for, come in for a chat for advise. There is a subsidy (ENABLE) available for under 16 year olds in the care or a community services card holder.
What ever age and eye or vision concerns you may have, we service all age groups. If there is something that is outside what we can provide then we can refer to a suitable provider.
